Jan's Poem

ODE TO NANCY

I look to you
My sister
For love and acceptance
Others will judge me
fault me for my ignorance
They cannot see
The soft heart,
So easily wounded
life turned me Inside out
Left me raw, hounded
By unkind memories
I cannot escape the shame
Of a hand-me-down childhood
Because it dwells inside
My muscle, sinew and blood
pressed close to my heart
Are the specters of needy love
That haunt my very being
And leave me as the half light
Behind the dark wall of your vision
